Screw Clapton. . .

. . .Tufte is God.

Today [info]karl and I attended Edward Tufte's one-day course on presenting data and information. It was tremendously valuable. His talk was compelling and engaging and I think we both left with some tangible and substantive ideas for improving FlightAware and with a much better appreciation for the topics covered in Tufte's excellent books.

It takes a special sort of speaker to get me motivated and inspired by statistics.

He'll be in Austin next Monday and Tuesday. If you can make time I highly recommend the course.

I would love to attend that course. I've got a copy of The Visual Display of Quantitative Information which is nearly a work of art.

It's a bit sad that http://edwardtufte.com is kind of web 1.0. :)

all of his books are works of art, IMNSHO.

I've never seen him talk and am still waiting for someone else to pay for me to go, but someday, i hope to see him. his ideas are beautiful, and his presentation, superb.

Anything has to be better than the week long Exchange 2007 class I was subject to last week.

His books were among the few I had second thoughts about purging when I moved (but I was ruthless anyway!) Cool stuff indeed.

Hey, he's in Boston in March, maybe I will try and go or at least send my designer.

When I worked at a (learning) game development place, they sent a few of the designers to that course and they came back in awe.
Although I am not sure that their work changed one bit.
